The Jamaica Memorial Library is located in the mountains of Windham County in southeastern Vermont. This rural public library serves the town of Jamaica, population 1000. The library is located in the center of the village in the former 2-room schoolhouse. Recent renovations include the addition of a full basement and installation of handicap accessible ramps and a bathroom. Membership is free for use of library materials including books, audio books, magazines, movies, computers and games. The library offers programs for children and adults including a book discussion for adults and a summer reading program for children.
The State of Vermont has no direct funding for libraries, unlike most other states. Jamaica Memorial Library is a municipal library. The town of Jamaica contributes an amount per year to the library to support staffing and infrastructure. Other needs such as books and supplies are funded by your donations, our ongoing book sale and trustee fund raisers.
